Behind the Scenes – Cincinnati Zoo

Sometimes my days off consist of sleeping, eating cheddar bunnies, Netflix, and then eating again (preferably cheddar bunnies). And sometimes my days off turn into playing with animals behind the gates of the zoo. Our friend Mike Dulaney from the Cincinnati Zoo let us tag along for an amazing tour behind the scenes of the second oldest zoo in the United States. Here are some highlights from the adventure.

At the first stop, we learned about the elephants and how they are cared for here in Cincinnati. Who knew they liked pedicures too?!

Duke, the sea lion, was one of my favorites. It was so neat to be up close and personal with this little guy during his feeding.

And then we met four of these little wallabies. Look at those precious hands.

And, needless to say, I fell in love.

I think this kinda sums up how I feel about the armadillo.

But it’s so cute when Mike holds it, right?!

Our last stop was with one of my favorite animals, the red panda. Her name is Bailey, and she loves to eat apples.

We learned that the zoo has “panda painting parties” which is where the keepers paint the bottom of the pandas’ feet and let them walk on canvases. A few days after our tour, Mike surprised me with my very own painting at the stage door. It’s green (you know, Wicked), and I was weepy. That’s normal, right?!

Thanks for following along and letting me share my little adventure 🙂

xoxo, allison
