A Motown Minute – Detroit

Oh goodness, Detroit surprised me. I didn’t know what to expect since I had never been to the city, and most of my friends had visited several years ago. The downtown area is full of cute shops, restaurants, and green spaces with parks and puppies. With its wall art and juxtaposition of old and new, I actually found Detroit kinda charming. These are some of my favorite pictures from Motor City.

Our new friend Brian James gave us a tour of United Sounds System Recording Studios.

So many legends have recorded in this space, such as Aretha Franklin, Prince, The Temptations, and The Supremes.

Lauren Cannon caught me gazing at the building.

Our next stop was Hitsville USA, and we loved seeing all the history of Motown.

The General Motors building is absolutely gorgeous and right on the riverwalk.

There’s Canada.

After being in Indianapolis recently, it was really neat to see the GM influence of racing.

The Belt Alley has lots of outdoor bars and string lights (which is one of my favorite things).

I walked by the home of the Detroit Tigers every day on the way to work. If you know anything about me, you know I love baseball. And baseball season. And hot dogs.

The Roasting Plant. I know its not a native of Detroit, but wow I love their coffee.

If you build it, they will come. Translation: if there is a color wall, I will find it.

And have a photo shoot with a sweet person on the street.

Parks and Rec Diner. The brunch is so good, and the building is part of historic Detroit. It actually looks like a castle from the outside.

The happiest.

Grey Ghost is one of my new favorite restaurants. I have no pictures from brunch because I ate everything before I could process what was in front of me.

But this was a dinner of dreams.

The downtown space is so beautiful.

Look at those cute beach chairs and sand.

On to the next adventure…

xoxo, allison
